Dominican Laity
The Blessed Terrence Albert O’Brien Chapter of the Dominican Laity meets at St. Saviour’s Dominican Church the first Wednesday of each month from 5:00-7:00pm for Vespers with the Dominican Sisters in the church, food and fellowship, a time of intellectual and spiritual formation, and collaboration in the apostolate. More than a group with monthly meetings, becoming a member of the Dominican Laity is a way of life, following in the footsteps of Saint Dominic, who was called to set the world on fire with a burning love for God
After years of discernment, members make public promises to live the Dominican charism according to their state of life: contemplating the Word of God, praying the rosary and Divine Office, attending Mass regularly and preaching through apostolic works–all in the spirit of Saint Dominic, characterized by an emphasis on grace and virtue with a spirit of joy. Meetings are open to anyone considering this way of life. After a time of candidacy, new members are enrolled in the white, Dominican scapular. After six months of mutual discernment, the candidate may make temporary promises for three years, and at the conclusion of three years, they may make a lifetime promise to live as a Lay Dominican.
